Three articles in Hydrogeology Journal (August 2020) describe the assessment of groundwater vulnerability on the South Rim, Grand Canyon (USA), amid concerns over reduced groundwater quality and availability.  Stable isotopes, dissolved noble gases, age tracers and geochemistry were used to support a new conceptual model of groundwater flow on the South Rim.

Used sustainably, groundwater could provide potable water for the estimated 40% of inhabitants in southern Africa who currently lack access to safe drinking water and sanitation services. It could alleviate pressure on the region’s surface water and support smallholder agriculture, strengthening food security and supporting resilient livelihoods.

We have been informed by Springer Nature of the latest Impact Factor (for 2019) for our Hydrogeology Journal. It rose to the highest level ever for HJ, 2.641.

Well done to all those involved in contributing to this ongoing success story – the editors, authors, readers – and of course IAH’s and Springer Nature’s HJ team working hard in the background!

A group of trained farmer-researchers, ‘Bhujal Jaankars’ in two Rajasthan and Gujarat watersheds monitor groundwater levels under a village-level project for groundwater sustainability..Most of the farmer-researchers are men but the project seeks to include more women, as it expands to other parts of the country.

En Chile se reconocen cerca de 280 fuentes termales, con diferentes características de acuerdo al territorio en que se encuentran. Así, las termas del norte se pueden ubicar a más de cuatro mil metros de altura, en pleno Altiplano, y las del sur pueden existir al nivel del mar. Para levantar información sobre termas de Chile, empezando por las que se ubican en la zona norte, la arquitecta Jimena Eyzaguirre, emprendió la misión de visitar cada una de la que se tuviera un registro. De esta forma, logró hacer una selección y elaborar un libro con 40 termas que se encuentran hacia el norte de Chile. Aquí te contamos más información sobre su aventura y cómo conseguir el libro.
